Armed robber overturns car after Flannels raid
A MAN was arrested following an armed robbery at a Southport fashion store which ended with a car overturning into a front garden.
Officers were called to reports of a robbery in progress at Flannels, Tulketh Street, at around 3.15pm on Tuesday, May 29, where a man was said to be in possession of a gun.
Staff at the high-end shop, who were distressed but uninjured, said that the man stole a selection of goods before running away.
He then drove off in a black Ford Fiesta Zetec down Wesley Street. Following inquiries, police identified the car and it was found to have crashed into the garden wall of a house in Lady Green Court, Victoria Road, Ince Blundell.
A man was seen running from the vehicle. A 20-year-old man from Anfield was later arrested on suspicion of robbery and has been taken into custody for questioning.
A suspected imitation firearm and suspected stolen property have been recovered from the car, which will continue to be examined.
Det Insp Tony O’Brien said: “We believe there were members of the public in the shop who may have witnessed the incident, and we are keen to speak to all of them.
“Additionally, if you saw a car matching this description being driven at speed in the areas, let us know and pass on any dashcam footage, which may be vital to the investigation.”
