Zack’s massive effort for hospice charity
AN AINSDALE schoolboy has raised more than £1,500 for a charity close to his heart.
Zack Dowling raised £868 for Queenscourt Hospice by completing his first triathlon in April.
The Sefton Community Triathlon meant the 11-year-old, from Ainsdale, completed a 200 metre swim, a 4,000 metre cycle and 18,000 metre run.
It wasn’t the first time the St Johns Primary School pupil had raised money for the hospice, though, as he also raised more than £700 in 2016 by completing a sponsored swim.
All of the money raised has been donated to the kitchen at the Queenscourt Hospice, where his grandmother, Mary Hudson, volunteers.
She has volunteered in the kitchen at the hospice for four years.
She said: “The money raised with his first fundraiser went towards enabling Queenscourt Hospice to purchase a much-needed dishwasher and new pans, and Zack vowed to continue fundraising for such a good cause.
“The latest money raised will likely go towards purchasing new cutlery and a blender, as we are very particular in the kitchen and want to ensure patients have the best of everything.
“These events are totally his own idea and we are all very proud of his achievements.”
While no additional fundraising events have yet been confirmed, Zack is hoping to compete in the Crosby triathlon again in 2019.
