Waterfront gets set for air show big weekender

-

WATERFRONT owner Bliss is going all out for Southport Air Show weekend.

On Saturday and Sunday, July 7-8 The Plaza at The Waterfront will be the place to be for a public weekender to coincide with the annual Southport Air Show.

The free family event with its views across Marine Lake will celebrate the best in the region and have something for everyone.

There will be views of the air show, along with plenty of activity on the ground with children’s entertainment from Bouncy Castle Parade, plus food pods by Cheeky Chilli, Graham Eyes butchers and others.

Tap and Bottles will be running pop-up bars, as will Remedy and Dramshop.

There will be live music from the DeadGood DJ team.

The event will be the first in a series of activities being hosted by Bliss. The weekender will take over the entire waterfront, which was created on the site of the Floral Gardens adjacent to Southport Theatre, which over its 45-year history has welcomed stars such as Marlene Dietrich, Pink Floyd and The Beatles to its stage.

To mark its 45th birthday, Southport Theatre will be opening its archives for the first time during the weekender and showing exhibits and artefacts from its famous back stage and poster rooms.

The official “sleep partner” to Bliss Hotels, Millbrook Beds, has also joined in and created the UK’s first pop-up Bliss Bedroom to give visitors a sneak preview of the new rooms.

There will even be an opportunity to win one of the handcrafted English beds, along with a weekend away to watch it being built.

Enda Rylands, chief operating officer of Bliss Hotels, said: “We want the Waterfront to be known nationally as an iconic tourist destination famous for great leisure and entertainment experiences. Our weekender is about bringing people together and making the Waterfront the bustling hub of the town again.”
