Village prepares to open its garden gates

-

THIS year’s Ainsdale Open Gardens Weekend will be held this weekend, on Saturday, June 30 and Sunday, July 1.

Joan Major, secretary of Ainsdale Civic Society, said: “As usual there will be some lovely gardens for everyone to enjoy.

“Once again we will provide the very popular free bus service, courtesy of Jon Howard, who will drive his vintage bus between the gardens to help those without transport or have problems walking.

“It will leave from outside the Post Office about every 20 minutes.

“It is amazing how many generous residents gladly open their gardens for others to enjoy and to help raise funds for the Ainsdale Civic Society and the various charities supported by the gardeners.

“These little gems, which are hidden away behind walls and fences are always a delight, and allow you all to enjoy a variety of different styles of gardens, and perhaps get some ideas for what you can achieve in your own garden.

“The variety of gardens is intriguing with so many different and diverse gardens.

“These are not large formal gardens, they are ordinary gardens in ordinary homes in which the owners have managed to achieve extraordinary displays.

“The love and attention which has been poured into these gardens is obvious to the visitor.

“This event is extremely popular and visitors come not just from Ainsdale, but from all over the North West.

“Tickets are very reasonably priced at £5 per person and cover admission to all the gardens over the two days.

“Accompanied children under the age of 12 years go free.”

Tickets, and details of the gardens featured, are available in Ainsdale from: The Chocolate Box, Graysons Bakery, Broughs Butchers and Howards DIY.

There will also be an information stall outside Ainsdale Post Office on the day should you have any queries.
