Nose points the way in familiar story
PINOCCHIO: The Boy Within comes to The Epstein, Liverpool, for just two days on July 23 and 24.
It is the story of a father longing for a son, a boy craving excitement, and a mother’s love lighting the way, presented by Liverpool-based theatre company Cuckootales.
Join Pinocchio as he journeys through the elements on his magical quest to become a real boy, but soon discovers that adventure is empty without the love of others.
This original production is written and directed by Pauline Morris and Gemma Hurst, with music arranged and recorded by Felix Hagan, and is performed by a local Liverpool cast who are joined by the Helen O’Grady Drama Academy.
Characters from the shabby and sinister to the pure and ethereal combine with a striking Epstein set.
Puppets and costumes will capture the imagination of audiences of all ages and the host of memorable songs will be guaranteed to have you singing along.
Carlo Collodi’s classic story tells of the impoverished carpenter who lovingly carves a puppet son.
Magically springing to life but struggling with the “truth”, Pinocchio embarks on a journey, facing moral temptation and mortal peril.
Finding that his nose grows with every lie he tells, Pinocchio ultimately overcomes all obstacles to find “the boy within”.
This adaptation, packed with humour, focuses on the human bonds of friendship, family and compassion The timeless setting seems an unlikely and somewhat “grubby” backdrop for our heroes, but it is one capable of showing that “magic truly is a wonderful thing”.
The 11am show on July 24 will be a relaxed performance, perfect for anyone of any age with any special needs that would benefit from a more relaxed environment and, as a special treat, there will be a “meet and greet” with the cast for audience members, after this show.
