ASOUTHPORT business owner is appealing for witnesses to come forward after a car smashed through the front wall of her garage.

Carolyn Blanshard, of Linwar Motors in Virginia Street, is hoping someone can identify the driver or car which caused major damage in the late-night crash.

The driver of the vehicle left behind part of a Vauxhall bumper and a section of the number plate reading “TU”.

Carolyn, who runs the family business with her dad, Ian, and brother, Jonathan, arrived at work on Friday morning to find the damage and now hopes someone may have witnessed the incident, seen a car matching that description driving erratically, or be aware of such a car suffering significant damage.

The business, a BMW specialist, has been operatingion Virginia Street since 1970 and has been run by the family since 1985.

CCTV footage showed that the crash happened at around 11pm and a group of people then helped to remove the car from the wall.

Another witness called 999 but the incident was not attended by police officers and the family have now submitted a formal complaint to Merseyside police.

Carolyn said: “It’s not helpful at a straitened economic time.

“We’ve had problems with trouble in the past with people throwing stones at the cars in the garage.

“We spent a lot of money about five years ago to make the place look nicer for people living here, and for security, but then some idiot goes and does something like this.”

Anyone with information can contact police on 101 or Linwar directly on 01704 540047.
