AN ANNUAL football match held in memory of a young Southport man will again support a local girl who was left battling cerebral palsy and blindness after being born premature.

The Monksey Memorial Match is held in honour of Christopher Monks, who died after a single punch attack while on a night out in Churchtown in 2012.

His family hold a charity football match in his honour each year, where a team of Chris’s friends compete against a team of his brother Jonathan’s friends.

This year’s match will take place in August and will raise money for Jessica’s Brighter Future Fund for the second year running.

The fundraising campaign was set up by Kerry Seddon to help provide urgently needed equip- ment for her daughter, Jessica, who was born weighing a tiny 1lb 9½oz and the complications of this left her with cerebral palsy, fluid on the brain, and blindness.

Announcing the recipient of this year’s fundraising, the family said: “This year we are continuing our support in raising money for a local girl in Southport called Jessica.

“As a result of her premature birth, Jessica has many difficulties, is registered blind, uses a wheelchair and needs 24-hour care and support in everything she does.

“This brave young lady is now 24 years of age and more than ever needs specialist equipment and adaptations to support her now and in the future.

“Hopefully with the help of us all, we will be able to give as much as possible to help Jessica and her family along the way towards a brighter future.”

The match will take place at the fields on Preston New Road in Churchtown on Saturday, August 25, with kick-off at 1.30pm.

This will be followed by the trophy presentation at Argyle Tennis Club, Argyle Road, Southport, at 4.30pm, which will also feature a raffle, music, bar and a barbecue.

All are welcome to attend end both stages of the event. ent.
