It’s showtime!

THOUSANDS of people are expected to attend Ainsdale Show in Southport this week- end.

The annual event, which is organised by the Ainsdale Horticultu­ral Society, will be held on the village green this Saturday ( July 14).

The 98th show will begin at 10.30am as Skelmersda­le Brass Band leads the procession through the village, before the crowning ceremony of the new Floral Queen, Lucy Rowlands.

There will also be performanc­es by the local schools and youth clubs throughout the day, including cubs and scouts.

The entertainm­ent arena will also see various acts perform, such as dance groups, karate experts and a dog display team.

Additional­ly, nine-yearold Astrid Smith, who will feature on The Voice Kids later this month, will be singing in the afternoon.

There will be a main marquee, which will host floral and vegetable contests and much more, as well as a children’s marquee which will feature various ment.

Amongst the wide range of things on offer, there will be a craft marquee, consisting of over 20 stalls from local business owners, and a funfair.

Planning takes place all through the year and the organisers are excited to see it all come together once again.

Tricia Pearce, vicechairm­an of Ainsdale Horticultu­ral Society, said: “I was chariman for 11 years and I have now stepped down to vice-chairman, but I am still involved in organising the event. activities and entertain-

“The parade is brilliant, it is quite emotional to see people of all ages coming together.

“The event aims to inspire people to engage with horticultu­re and crafts.

“It is a family day out, there’s fun, food and entertainm­ent - and this years main attraction will be a helter skelter.”

All money raised at the event goes towards organising next year’s Ainsdale Show for the community to enjoy.

Tickets will be available to buy on the day and cost £6 per adult, £1.50 per child and £12 per family ticket (two adults and two children.)

They can also be purchased in advance at a discounted rate from Chocolate Box, Many Happy Returns, and Blooming Crafty.
