Party raises £600 in name of Amanda

-

CANCER patients in the local area will benefit from a charity event held in memory of a young mum.

The “Cheese and Wine at Mine” night raised nearly £600 for Southport Hospital and Leukaemia Care, after 38-year-old Amanda Howard lost her battle with cancer.

Amanda, who was married with two young sons, was a former pupil of St Wyburn School in Birkdale, where, at the age of 11, she met her good friend Angela Danby, who organised last week’s fundraiser.

Angela has held the event every year since Amanda’s death in 2006.

About 30 women attended the event at Angela’s Rufford home, enjoying an evening of wine, cheese and cake.

Booths in Hesketh Bank once again donated the many cheeses, which this year included the delicious new additions Cornish Cider-washed Cheese, Goats Cheese with Honey and Flowers and black Charcoal Cheese.

Angela said: “Booths have again been very generous in supporting my event; I am so grateful to them.

“Also contributing to the evening were Fiddlers’ Lancashire Crisps, Trimmers Hair Salon Maghull, Boots Chapel Street, Clarins, Beales, Boots C12, Estee Lauder, Clinique, No7 and Redolution.

“I must thank, too, everyone else who donated to the event and the raffle – not least my lovely neighbours who so kindly gave the £590 raised, which will now be divided between Southport’s chemotherapy unit and Leukaemia Care.”
