Staff’s mountain trek for hospital fund

-

STAFF at a Southport McDonald’s have raised over £1,000 for a children’s hospital.

A group of 16 employees at McDonald’s on Ocean Plaza climbed Snowdon to raise funds for the Ronald McDonald House charity at Alder Hey in Liverpool.

The climb took place in April and took around six hours to complete.

In total, the group managed to raise more than £1,600 for the charity, which supports families of children being treated at Alder Hey.

The climb was arranged by Leigh Bottomley, the manager of McDonald’s on Ocean Plaza.

The 26-year-old said the team had a good experience, and he is already planning another sponsored climb.

He said: “The team were overwhelmed with the amount of sponsorship and support they got from their friends and family.

“Everything went really well. One of the girls fell over and hurt her ankle, but she managed to carry on until the end and made it to the top.”

The McDonald’s team are already planning their next charity project alongside award-winning wedding photographer Matthew Rycraft, who has a shop in Birkdale village.

They have placed a food collection bin asking for donations for Southport Foodbank and Southport Soup Kitchen in the seafront store.

In recognition for their support for good causes, the Ocean Plaza branch is in the running for a national award with McDonald’s.
