Boutique hotel is set to open up in town
THE owner of three Southport venues is launching a new boutique hotel in the town centre. The Lord Street Hotel, located on the site of the former Khepri bar and restaurant, will officially open and host a guestlist event on Saturday.
The new hotel is the brainchild of Andrew Mikhail, chairman of the Mikhail Hotel and Leisure Group, who hopes that the upmarket 27-room hotel will add an “extra layer of sophistication to the area.”
The group, which owns the Bold Hotel that underwent a multi-million-pound renovation in 2016, and Irish pub Punch Tarmey’s, has also played a role in the emerging Northern Quarter of the town.
The new hotel has been built above Khepri, which opened in July 2017 as an Egyptian restaurant and nightclub before closing in January.
However, the venue is now reopened as part of the Lord Street Hotel and has been transformed into an champagne, wine, tapas bar and restaurant featuring live music.
The idea to build the new hotel came after the Bold Hotel was running at 95 per cent occupancy, and the new opening has created 50 local jobs.
Mr Mikhail said: “The stunning Lord Street Hotel will bring another high standard boutique hotel to the area and our research tells us that demand is strong for this product. “The Bold Hotel is already running at 95 per cent occupancy so it makes good business sense to be investing in a further quality hotel and, an area that was previously neglected.
“I believe the Bold Hotel and now The Lord Street Hotel will serve as catalysts for future investment coming into the town and the number of jobs emerging as a result.
“We’ve created 50 jobs in the process of developing our latest hotel with Mikhail Leisure having transformed all four storeys of a previously derelict building.
“It’s another proud moment for the group and the great team of people we have behind us.”
