Schools’ meal appeal success

-

WE HELD a Joint Schools Learning Partnership (SLP) fundraiser for Mary’s Meals at the end of the school year in July 2018.

Children across the town brought money into school to help pay for children elsewhere in the world who are not able to get a school meal each day.

Mary’s Meals uses the funds to give children the food that they need so that they can make the most of their learning opportunities in their school.

Holy Family, Our Lady of Lourdes, Kings Meadow, Birkdale Primary, Birkdale High, Norwood, Ainsdale St John’s, Farnborough Infants, Farnborough Juniors, BDS, Linaker, St Philip’s, Churchtown, Kew Woods, Meols Cop,

Greenbank and Merefield all joined together to raise £3,850 for this great charity.

Congratulations to everyone who took part. Adrian Antell Farnborough Road Junior School

PAPERS AREN’T FREE

CAN someone please tell me what gives people the right to stand in shops and read the daily newspapers free?

They leave them in a dreadful state with leaflets spilling out.

Magazines that are given (purchased by the honest customers) with the same paper are either missing or inside a different paper altogether – after that too has been read!

Surely this is a form of stealing as these papers are not there for free perusal but are placed there to be purchased.

I collected the paper this week, it was the last one and in quite a state I had to sort/tidy same.

I was so annoyed. I should not have to do this nor should I be buying these used goods. Our supermarkets should be doing more to stop this cheeky practice of something for nothing.

I did actually ask someone who was on his free reading trip did he not feel guilty about what he was doing, his blatant answer was NO!

I said one or two other things that I won’t bore you with.

When arriving at the checkout I asked the cashier could I have the paper at half price because of the state it was in; I don’t think she thought I was serious as she just smiled.

I put the same query to the supervisor who said it wasn’t

possible, therefore I gave the newspaper back to them, commenting about the above “bad practice”, they tell me they will consider putting a sign up.

Let’s wait and see shall we? I commented that I will now have to go to another supermarket to purchase the paper and therefore may as well shop there in future.

Does anybody else feel aggrieved about this?

TRACING ALICE

I’M trying to make contact with any friends or relatives of the late Alice Povey (maiden name Tunney) who died in the Southport

area in 1996 aged approximately 76.

I believe she was married to a William Povey.

Alice was my mum’s only sibling. Apparently there was a family fallout just after the war.

My mum died in 1978 and was never reunited with her.

I’ve never met Alice and I don’t know what she looked like or if she ever had any children.

It’s a big gap in my family history, which I would like to fill.

If you have any information regarding Alice Povey please contact David at daveleeisnow@ gmail.com David Lee Via email

LEASEHOLD WORRIES

I WRITE to tell you and Cllr Pat Keith of my leasehold problems.

I have been harping on about leases for some time.

My position is with a flat purchased 11 years ago. It has a lease from the builder which is subject to a lease from the freeholder. Our lease is for £100 per annum escalating to £250 on year 10, and followed by a further rise to £500 in 20 years.

Besides feeling that the rises increases are just a hike in the cost of the flat we also will have difficulty in any reasonable purchase of the leasehold .
