Take your pick of Hallowe’en half term fun events

FAMILIES all around West Lancashire and Southport are looking forward to Hallowe’en and half term next week.

The good news is, there is lots to do to keep your little ones entertaine­d.

Among the attraction­s is Southport’s annual Hallowe’en Festival, organised by Southport BID (Business Improvemen­t District).

Look out for all manner of mischief and magic throughout the town in the run up to Hallowe’en.

Mythical dragons and haunted trees will roam the streets while mischief-making ghosts and spooks will be causing mayhem through Chapel Street in Southport town centre and a ghost pirate ship will be causing pandemoniu­m.

There will be plenty of children’s craft and activities in venues throughout the town and all sorts of pop-up surprises all ending with the Greatest Hallowe’en Show on the Sunday with all manner of circus freak fun.

Here are some of the events you can enjoy:

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 19

Lakin McCarthy George Egg: DIY Chef

The Atkinson, Lord Street, Southport, 8pm.

Award-winning comedian George Egg

(the Anarchist Cook) returns with a new show demonstrat­ing more live cooking and comedy.

In George Egg: DIY Chef, a health scare sees George banned him from the family kitchen, but relocated to the shed. His imaginatio­n and resourcefu­l- ness lead him to build an improvised kitchen there. During an evening of stand-up, cookery and comedy lecture, George prepares a breakfast, a lunch and dinner using the most unconventi­onal methods.

And you get to taste the food at the end… at your own risk!

Young inventors, creators and builders are invited to drop in and play with The Atkinson’s massive supply of Lego.

Scarecrow Festival

Wesley Street, Southport town centre

Southport’s annual Hallowe’en Festival is back, packed with brilliantl­y spooky family events and all manner of goings-on around the town centre.

Head to Wesley Street for the annual scare fest. Watch the story unfold as the scarecrows line the streets.

Be part of the action and make your own spooky characters for the street.

MONDAY OCTOBER 22

Gems In The Dunes

The Atkinson, Lord Street, Southport.

11am-3pm.

Get hands-on at the half term drop-in wildlife activity with Back from the Brink

Find out about the “gems” that live in the sand dunes, how you can help bring our lizards, toads and beetles back from the brink as well as trying the quick quiz, and fun arts & crafts, maybe with a spooky theme. Suitable for all ages.

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 23

The Greatest Show – You Didn’t See

Southport Theatre & Convention Centre, Promenade, Southport.

7pm-9pm.

A concert of hits from The Greatest Showman and other favourite films.

And introducin­g a grand illusion performed by David Penn from Britain’s got Talent. Prepare to be mesmerised and question what your eyes see, as you witness the unexplaina­ble.

Crafty’s Hallowe’en Spooktacul­ar

From the team behind Easter Bunny’s Eggs Factor, Santa’s Christmas Wish and Marty MacDonald’s Farm comes a brand new Hallowe’en show for 2018!

Every Hallowe’en, Crafty the Crow invites all his friends to see the treasured Golden Pumpkin on show at his Hallowe’en Spooktacul­ar – the biggest Hallowe’en party in town!

But this year someone is up to no good, because the Golden Pumpkin has been stolen…. but who by? Surely not Pongo the Pig? Or Sheena the Sheep? Or maybe Barry the Butler did it!

Come in your scariest Hallowe’en costume and help Sally the Scarecrow solve the ghostly goings-on at The Atkinson then meet Crafty afterwards and receive a special present!

Songs include children’s favourites Ghostbuste­rs, The Monster Mash, Everybody Do This, If You’re Scaredy And You Know It, Row, Row, Row Your Boat and more!

Crafty’s Hallowe’en Spooktacul­ar is a family show particular­ly suitable for two to seven-year-olds and lasts for 40 minutes, followed by a popular meet, greet and treat with Crafty the Crow himself – including a free present for every child!

Ghost Pirate Parade

Chapel Street, Southport. 11am and 12.30pm

Join the parade in your best ghostly pirate gear at 2pm.

The ghost-crew of the Scurvy Shark are doomed to sail the seven seas, cast adrift on the oceans of time, searching for Barbarossa’s elusive elixir of life to restore them to life. Scares and scrapes litter the way, along with a good dose of slapstick and giggles.

Join the spooky ghost pirate ships for two shows, followed by the mutinous pirate parade.

Little Monsters Maze Fun

Town Hall Gardens, Southport.

11am-4pm.

The first day of the Hallowe’en maze is all about the little monsters.

Dress in your best seasonal outfit and let loose in the maze. Be warned, though – all your favourite spooky characters are going to be about and looking to make mischief.

Starkidz’ madcap friends will be chasing, silly stringing and generally getting up to no good in the maze and who know who you might find hiding!

£1 per person entry. Cash only.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 26 – SUNDAY, OCTOBER 29

The Big Spooktacul­ar Maze!

Town Hall Gardens, Lord Street, Southport.

11am-4pm.

This spooky maze will be taking over Town Hall Gardens in Southport for four days.

Watch out! There will be some cheeky ghosts and ghouls looking to make mischief as you attempt it.

£1 per person. Suitable for all ages.

Under-eights should be accompanie­d by an adult. Under-fours are permitted but at parent’s discretion – the maze is 2m high and people will make you squeal and giggle.
