Linnets pushing on in search for coach
BURSCOUGH are moving forward in their efforts to appoint a new manager after posting an advert for a new boss to their official website two weeks ago.
The statement read: “Burscough Football Club are inviting applications from competitive, positivethinking, self-motivated, dedicated, and enthusiastic candidates who aspire to be the very best and want to achieve progress through player development in the football pyramid.
“Applicants should have experience of non-league management at Step 5 level or above, possess appropriate coaching qualifications, an advantage are good footballing contacts especially in the north west.”
Dave Sutton, who is currently in charge, is due to revert to his former director of football position if a suitable candidate is found during the search.
A senior club official confirmed that more than ten applications for the job were ultimately received and Burscough have now whittled those names down to form a shortlist of interviewees, which are currently in the process of being scheduled.
While the search for a new manager is still ongoing, Linnets produced a shock 3-0 away win at Bootle this week to record their third win in five HSL Premier Division games.
Goals from Yves Zama, Chad Whyte and Dmitri Nkusu-Wasaulua handed Burscough all three points at the Delta Taxi Stadium.
After the game, centreforward Whyte - who was the club’s top scorer last season - said: “3-0 away with at Bootle, doesn’t get much better than that! Great performance [and] double figures for the season.”
Burscough take on New Wills in the Macron Cup this weekend as they hope to repeat last season’s heroics in the competition.
Linnets reached the final - played at Fleetwood Town’s Highbury Stadium - before eventually losing to Widnes.
New Mills are a division below Burscough in the HSL First Division South and have won just one of their last ten games in all competitions.
