Linnets’ chance for speedy revenge

BURSCOUGH are hoping to appoint a new manager in the near future following Tuesday night’s 4-1 hammering at Charnock Richard.

Yves Zama gave the visitors an early lead before Daniel Regan equalised for Charnock. Captain Carl Grimshaw then handed them the advantage before half-time.

Regan and Grimshaw added another strike each during the second period as the heavy defeat ended Linnets’ impressive run of three straight victories in all competitions, including wins at Bootle and high-flying Runcorn Town.

The club posted an advertisement for a new boss almost one month ago as they seek to

‘move Linnets to the next level’ and attracted more than ten applications for the role.

Current manager Dave Sutton - who turned out over 200 times for Huddersfield during his playing career - arrived at Victoria Park as the club’s director of football in 2016 but took over the management reigns less than a year later.

Sutton guided Burscough to the Macron Cup final last term as well as helping the club avoid back-to-back relegations.

Linnets then started the new campaign slowly under his guidance but their upturn in form was ended abruptly by Charnock to leave them 15th in the table after 13 games played.

A club official confirmed that after recent interviews, Burscough hope to make an official announcement ‘very soon’ with Sutton reverting to his former director of football role.

The chosen candidate will potentially arrive during a busy winter schedule for the club with 14 games scheduled between now and the new year.

Sutton and Burscough have the chance to obtain immediate revenge against Charnock this weekend as Andy Westwell brings his side to Victoria Park on Saturday in the HSL Premier Division.
