Means no KO win

opponent, and a near faultless first game by Derek, 11-1, certainly gave Aidan a severe wake up call. A quick chat and gee-up from his team certainly did the trick, and another superb contest was developed, as he turned the tables in style, taking the next two 11-13, 7-11.

Derek though dug in to square things up 12-10 in the fourth, only for the youngster to pull out all the stops again to take the fifth 8-11, and the home side’s lead was cut to 3-2.

Andy then wasted no time in restoring his side’s two point advantage, with a three straight win over Chris, before Nathan took centre stage to face his opposite number Dave.

Fast forward to the end of this contest, where home captain Nick immediately stepped forward to congratulate, not Dave, but his opponent, for a truly fantastic performance, ‘one of the best he had seen’. Three straight 6-11, 4-11, 9-11, no argument there then, Princes St lead 4-3.

Well, after such a breathless match so far, Waterloo seemed to run out of steam somewhat, as first Nick, then Andy and finally second pairing Dave and Nick, all won in three straight to complete a 7-3 victory, which was probably well deserved, but not forgetting the effort put in by the visitors in a fabulous night’s entertainment.

With that win the Princes St outfit now head the chasing pack on 31pts. Three teams are now tied on 28pts, Southport B head the trio on matches won after a 7-3 home win over Crosby E where Tom Ray and Alan Nolan with two wins apiece were the pick of the bunch.

Princes St D’s close 4-6 win at Holy Trinity B ensured both teams also reached that 28pt mark.

Colin Fyles and Chris Foley, both with a full quota of wins made the difference against a strong Holy Trinity side.

At the top of Division 3, Argyle H (45pts) now have some daylight between themselves and their F team (36pts). Both good and bad luck can play a decisive part, throughout a season, the good here certainly favoured the leaders, as their 1-9 win at Crosby G wasn’t quite as convincing as the scoreline suggests, with both Ian Massey and Pat Hyde unlucky not to have registered points for the Crosby side.

However, Argyle F were unlucky let’s say, when they hosted a very strong Princes St F (32pts), resulting in a heavy maximum loss.

Rotating their players is key to Princes St F’s ideals, it just so happened their strongest side was their only option on this occasion. North Meols moved up to fourth after a convincing win over Argyle J, whilst the Para’s fought out an intriguing stalemate with Southport C. Finally, Crosby H just about had enough away to Argyle G, to clinch a 4-6 success.

An interesting point here was that Argyle’s Gary and Lewis Hible won the father and son doubles contest against Andrew and Mark Hawkins.
