River of Light all fired up ...

-

ONE of the UK’s most successful firework companies will light up the skies above both sides of the River Mersey for this year’s November 4 Bonfire Night celebrations.

Titanium Fireworks is the team behind acclaimed national events including the Mayor of London’s New Year’s Eve party, Edinburgh’s Hogmanay, the opening ceremony for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the Adele finale show at Wembley Stadium in June this year.

The firm will take the helm of River of Light on Sunday, November 4, and is planning a never-before-seen display on the River Mersey.

Tens of thousands of people are expected to line the waterfront in Liverpool and New Brighton for the free spectacle, which will act as the finale for the China Dream season, part of the city’s 2018 cultural programme.

Fireworks will be set off from the water’s edge and from huge barges floating on the Mersey, and will be accompanied by a soundtrack played from key areas and venues along the waterfront.

Alongside the firework display, there will be four light installations and a variety of street performances.

The installations will represent the five elements which underpin Chinese philosophy: wood, water, earth and metal – with the fireworks representing fire.

The Wave is 40 triangular interactive gates representing water, to be found along The Strand near Salthouse Dock.

Anahad marks a European premiere for the work, which falls into the “wood” category, located in Mann Island.

Pool of Mirrors represents metal and takes inspiration from Chinese “magic mirrors” which were cast in bronze and shrouded in mystery.

Terra is the earth section. The Royal Liver Building will become a canvas for light projections, exploring the view of earth from space.

The festival begins on Friday, November 2, culminating in the main event on Sunday, November 4, with street performances on the waterfront from around 5pm, and the main firework display starting at 6.30pm.
