Woman sought over charity theft

-

POLICE are looking for a woman in connection with a Children in Need collection stolen from a Southport gym.

Staff at Anytime Fitness in Lord Street who said they were “frustrated” and “sad” after the theft, released CCTV footage of the woman on Facebook.

The gym, which is open 24/7, can only usually be accessed by people with a membersonly fob.

But club manager Richard Dakin said that the door was left open at the time of the theft because of the wind, at around 7pm on Saturday, November 10

He Mr Dakin said: “There is sadness and frustration among ourselves and our members. We have a great band of members who are angered by this. Theft is bad enough, but when it is charity it makes it worse.”

A Facebook post from the gym read: “We have had a person who has stolen our Children in Need collection and we are looking for any help identifying said person.

“We are completing internal investigations as well as working with the police but any help would be greatly appreciated.”

In response to the money going missing, members have now donated about £200 towards a new Children in Need collection.

Anytime Fitness will also be running events to help the national appeal.
