ANIGHT of white collar boxing dedicated to the life of a Southport businessman who died suddenly will take place next month.

Carl Horan, from Birkdale, died in March 2012 aged 33 after suffering a heart attack. Carl, who was well known in Southport, was a big boxing fan.

The big night – billed as “Fisticuffs and Cufflinks” – is the brainchild of Juice FM presenter Baz Todd, who was Carl’s friend.

The event will mix boxing with glamour and the organisers have lined up celbrity appearances Jon and Chris Clark from The Only Way is Essex, 2006 Big Brother finalist Aisleyne Horgan Wallace, 2018 Love Island contestant Dean Overson, Sean Pratt from Ex On The Beach and Rachel and John Lugo from The Real Housewives of Cheshire.

So far, the annual event has raised more than £10,000 for charity, with the Make a Wish Foundation, Claire House Childrens Hospice, Liverpool NeoNatal Ward, Queenscourt Hospice and Southport Hospital. This year’s chosen charity is Rainbow House.

A spokesman for the organisers said: “After much research and many amazing charities Rainbow House was our final choice.

“They are an amazing charity helping children, young people and adults with neurological conditions such a cerebral palsy, brain injury, stroke, MS and genetic conditions via Conductive Education (CE). Rainbow House teaches the children skills to lead a more active and independent life.

“The aim is to help each individual achieve their full potential.”

She added: “This is the year of lucky 7’s for Fisticuff & Cufflinks – it is the event’s 7th year being held on the 7th December with a 7pm start and 7 fights. As always the event caters for everyone, even those who don’t love boxing but love the glamorous atmosphere.” The event, which will also include a raffle boasting prizes such as including a free bar tab will take place at Southport Theatre on December 7.

An official afterparty will be held at Peaky Blinders bar on Lord Street.
