New Leaf’s market with a difference
NEW Leaf garden centre on Rotten Row will hold a Christmas market with a difference at the start of December.
The event will feature festive goods created by people who use the services of the adult social care provider New Directions.
It will take place at New Leaf’s Park Lodge site from 11am to 3pm on Saturday, December 1.
Organisers say there will be a wide variety of seasonal items on offer, all produced by people with support needs.
Gift ideas will range from wooden clocks, house plants and bird boxes to table runners, aprons and cushions.
Other handcrafted goods will include upcycled household items, wooden angels, animals and signs and even handknitted Christmas tree decorations.
Meanwhile, the gardening enthusiasts who attend New Leaf have also been working on a range of Christmas trees and yuletide plants, wreaths and grave pots.
Refreshments will also be available at the market, organised by the team that worked on the New Directions show garden which collected a gold medal at Southport Flower Show in 2017.
Project co-ordinator Angela Green said: “Everyone here has been working extremely hard to prepare for the Christmas market, so we’re hoping for a big turnout. Visitors will have the chance to buy unique, handcrafted items that are only available here at New Leaf.
“And as well as having the chance to choose from this range of unusual items, customers will have the satisfaction of knowing that any money they spend will be ploughed back into providing more resources and opportunities for the people who attend New Leaf.” IT’S beginning to sound a lot like Christmas, in Southport.
Southport Christmas Radio is a new, festive radio service, broadcasting online, on mobile and smart devices, playing “The Greatest Christmas Songs’” non-stop, 24/7 until New Year’s Day.
As well as some favourite Christmas music, listeners will be able to hear and find out about all the amazing and magical events, happening in Southport over the festive period.
The radio service is officially working in association with Visit Southport, Southport BID and its sister radio station, Sandgrounder Radio.
Andy Hilbert from Sandgrounder Radio said: “Every Christmas we change our name to SANTAgrounder Radio, this year we thought we’d go one step further and create a whole radio service purely for Christmas.
“We’re proud to be officially working with Visit Southport and Southport BID, to provide a one-stop shop, for all the essential information relating to all the magical things happening in Southport over the festive season.”
He added: “Southport Christmas Radio will also be the perfect accompaniment as you put your Christmas Tree up, wrap those presents and even eat your Christmas dinner.”
