Pudsey and TV hosts drop in

-

FAMILIES at Home-Start’s weekly Family Group at Canning Road church hall were very excited to welcome a very special celebrity guest on Thursday, November 15 Pudsey Bear.

Pudsey had his friends from BBC North West tonight programme with him.

Presenters, Roger Johnson and Beccy Barr, were walking 20 miles from Southport to Liverpool when they called in on the Children In Needfunded project at Home-Start.

Pudsey stayed for a short while at the Family Group and had his photo taken with the volunteers, parents and children until he had to leave to carry on with the next leg of his journey along the north west coast to Liverpool.

Manager Annie Ives, from the charity, said: “Thanks to Children In Need funding we are able to train volunteers to visit families at home.

“The volunteers bring in bags of toys and games to children who are isolated at home, often due to their parents’ ill- ness or disability.

“Children love these special visits and enjoys loads of fun with the volunteer.

“Parents benefit too from the visits as the volunteer offers friendship, emotional support and practical help.”

One mum said: “It feels like the cavalry is coming the day my volunteer visits... she has saved my sanity!”

Home-Start are looking for more volunteers who could offer a few hours each week to help families who are struggling to cope with day to day life.

Full training is given and out of pocket expenses are paid.

Please contact Annie or Karen by calling 01704 542276 for more information.
