the injuries totally changed the game completely but 2-0 flattered us. It could have been three or four really.

“We were unlucky in the first-half but at least the lads dug in. The lads at the back played brilliantly, Danny Brady, Luke Gibson and the two full-backs were immense.”

With Green losing two more bodies at the weekend, the former Squires Gate assistant manager is now eyeing reinforcements at Victoria Park.

Excitingly, the new boss is keen to explore the possibility of adding Football League quality to the ranks.

When asked if he was considering new signings, Green replied: ““I’ll be looking to use some of my contacts like Micky Mellon up at Tranmere who I’m very good friends with just to see if we can get some youth players”.

THERE is only one place to start this week, and that is the Anon Cup second round where holders, Crosby B are out, beaten at home by Southport A.

With the Crosby outfit at full strength, Southport welcomed back Bernhard Frank and brought in Tom Ray from their B team, and it was those two who were the key to turning the tables on last season’s winners, having recently lost 3-7 to them in the league.

Two wins from Bernhard along with single wins from Tom, Ogi Kostov and Jonny Cummins, against two wins from Rhys Davies and one from Francois Rafferty put the visitors in complete control at 3-5 with just the doubles to play.

In fact a quick countback to games won meant their progress was secured with an 11-20 lead on those games won.

Jonny and Tom then made the victory even sweeter, overcoming Francois and Peter Ashley, whilst Rhys and his dad Mark got the better of Ogi and Bernard which made the final score a surprising 4-6 Southport A, but it certainly looked so well deserved.

Having been involved in the match of the first round, Second Division side Argyle D with a win on countback against Southport B, were again entangled in another epic struggle at home to Holy Trinity A from the First Division.

Victories from Argyle’s Nick Miller and Callum Richardson was matched by Holy Trinity’s Colin Mitchell and Matty Cranny, add to that a doubles success each, and the match was finely balanced at 3-3.

A second win from Callum was quickly followed by Les Dodd’s customary contribution, and the home side were in the ascendancy at 5-3.

It then looked as though Nick would seal the match win against Matty, who would bet against him, being two games up and at 10-4 in the third. Well, it seems most would have got it wrong, as the Holy Trinity number one staged a remarkable recovery to snatch the third 10-12 and go on to take the next two games 8-11, 9-11.

Dave Bradley then won the last contest to make it 5-5 and to countback, which unfortunately this time went against the Argyle team, 19-20 Holy Trinity B, what a finish, what a tremendous tie.

Two matches were disappointingly conceded, both Crosby C and Princes St C benefiting from a free passage to the quarter finals.

In the other matches there were no great surprises, Crosby A won 1-6 at Argyle A, Princes St A did not drop a point away to Argyle C, as did Argyle B at home to Crosby E.

Finally, Argyle E’s Lol Phillips’ two wins were the only blots
