CCTV appeal over pensioner attack

APENSIONER was left needing medical treatment after he was repeatedly punched to the head on a train heading to Southport.

The incident took place on a Merseyrail train travelling between Hunts Cross and Southport on Saturday, June 22 at about 8.10pm.

During the journey, the victim, a man in his 70s began talking with another man.

British Transport Police believe the conversati­on became heated, and the second man repeatedly punched the victim to the head.

The pensioner suffered a number of injuries which required medical treatment.

Police are investigat­ing the assault and have launched a CCTV appeal.

Officers believe the man shown in the image may have informatio­n which could help their investigat­ion.

A spokespers­on

said: “Officers investigat­ing an assault on board a Merseyrail service travelling between Hunts Cross and Southport are today releasing a CCTV image in connection.

“The assault happened at 8.10pm on June 22. During the journey, the victim, a man in his 70s, began talking with another man on board the train.

“The conversati­on became heated, with the second man punching the victim a number of times to the head. The victim sustained a number of injuries which required medical treatment.

“Officers believe the man shown in this CCTV image may have informatio­n which could help them investigat­e.”
