CCTV appeal over pensioner attack
APENSIONER was left needing medical treatment after he was repeatedly punched to the head on a train heading to Southport.
The incident took place on a Merseyrail train travelling between Hunts Cross and Southport on Saturday, June 22 at about 8.10pm.
During the journey, the victim, a man in his 70s began talking with another man.
British Transport Police believe the conversation became heated, and the second man repeatedly punched the victim to the head.
The pensioner suffered a number of injuries which required medical treatment.
Police are investigating the assault and have launched a CCTV appeal.
Officers believe the man shown in the image may have information which could help their investigation.
A spokesperson
said: “Officers investigating an assault on board a Merseyrail service travelling between Hunts Cross and Southport are today releasing a CCTV image in connection.
“The assault happened at 8.10pm on June 22. During the journey, the victim, a man in his 70s, began talking with another man on board the train.
“The conversation became heated, with the second man punching the victim a number of times to the head. The victim sustained a number of injuries which required medical treatment.
“Officers believe the man shown in this CCTV image may have information which could help them investigate.”
