Fun and fashion as home celebrates national open day

-

SENIOR citizens from Southport brought out their creative sides as they celebrated the 2019 National Care Homes Open Day.

This year’s event focused on celebrating the role of art in care homes.

It was a busy week for Connell Court in Weld Road in Southport in the lead-up to the event.

MHA care homes including Connell Court feature artistic activities heavily in their day-today life, from craft and painting sessions through to music for entertainment.

Residents enjoyed taking part in many craft activities, making sock puppets, dream catchers, and pebble painting to name a few.

They had their own fashion show in association with Edinburgh Woollen Mill, where the residents became models for the day, with their finale displaying all their handiwork around the home.

They were joined by Larkfield Primary School Choir, followed by a cheese and wine afternoon with a visit from Birkdale Cheese Centre.

And the day finished with a family prize bingo in the evening.

Manager Anna Harvey said: “We hope as a result of our open day, our residents will be able to meet more people and make new friends.

“This is also an opportunity for potential volunteers to find out what a rewarding experience it can be and how they can make a difference to our residents’ quality of life.

“Coming up soon we will be having our garden party on Saturday, July 20 from 2pm, everyone welcome.”
