Man held after woman found dead in garden
Murder suspicion arrest as detectives probe shocking discovery of 88-year-old:
AMURDER investigation is under way after the body of a woman was found in the back garden of an Ainsdale home.
Police were originally called to the house, on Kenilworth
Road, on Monday night to reports of a “concern for safety” of an 88-year-old. Searches of the property took place and the tragic discovery was made.
A 58-year-old man, from Ainsdale, was arrested on suspicion of murder and subsequently released under investigation and detained under the Mental Health Act.
A58-YEAR-OLD man was arrested after the body of a woman was found in a Southport garden.
Police were called to the house, in Kenilworth Road, Ainsdale, on Monday night after reports of a concern for safety of an 88-year-old woman.
Officers remained stationed outside the house overnight, with dog units and forensic specialists at the scene the following day.
The forensics officers remained there throughout Tuesday as part of a heavy police presence, including seven vehicles.
A cordon was set up around the property, with specialists working from two tents set up in the front and back gardens,
Detectives were also seen carrying out inquiries at neighbours’ houses.
The force later confirmed that a woman’s body was found during a search of the back garden.
The woman has yet to be formally identified and police say the death is currently being treated as “unexplained”, with a post mortem examination due to take place yesterday.

A Merseyside police spokesman said: “Officers were called at 7.20pm on Monday, July 29, and a search of the back garden was carried out, during which a woman’s body was found.
“Her death is currently being treated as unexplained and a Home Office post mortem will take place to establish whether the woman died of natural causes or not.
“A 58-year-old man from Ainsdale was arrested on suspicion of murder. He has subsequently been released under investigation and detained under the Mental Health Act.
“An investigation to establish the full circumstances of the incident has now been launched, house to house inquiries are being carried out and the property has been sealed off to enable officers to forensically examine the scene.”
