Caunce likes the versatility

NICKY Caunce is impressed with Ormskirk’s ability to win matches in different ways after they recorded their 10th straight victory last weekend.

Ormskirk booked their place in the ECHO Knockout Cup semi-final with a 67-run triumph over New Brighton in the T20 format competition.

With confidence high, Caunce is eyeing a strong end to the campaign with his side still involved in several major cup competitions as well as pushing for the L&DCC title.

“Everyone is enjoying it and just getting on with it pretty much,” he said. “People want to perform and things but if it’s not your day it’s not your day.

“People are happy with how things are going but now it’s just about what we said earlier in the season, setting it up for a big August.

“Hopefully we can keep doing it until August in most of the competitions and then push on from there really.”

Ormskirk’s recent good form came on the back of a sticky opening to the season and Caunce is buoyed by their resilience in recent matches.

“I can see going back to the Orrell game on the first day of the season, it’s your first proper game after a few friendlies and things like that happen,” he continued.

“You have a few little collapses because it’s the first game but now I don’t think we’d collapse like we did.

“It is part of cricket and you just have to move on and get on with things from that situation.

“In the last few weeks we’ve chased a 180 and a 200 so we know we can chase as well as set. It’s been good the last few weeks.

“We’ve won in different ways rather than batting first and just bowling teams out.

“We’ve actually chased good totals down and put ourselves in situations where in the past we might have struggled.

“I think that’s good going forward but obviously we’ve got some big games.”
