Deals done for players as Watson ready for season

LIAM Watson admits there will be late transfer activity at Southport ahead of their curtain-raiser against Gateshead in the National League North on Saturday.

Southport are looking to build on the mid-table finish recorded last season in Watson’s first campaign back at the club - his third spell - after replacing Kevin Davies that summer.

Assessing the pre-season preparations following the 1-0 win over Bala Town last week, Watson said: “It’s been great. We’ve had a couple of new faces in but we’ve primarily worked on the whole of pre-season on shape and how we want to play.

“The players have bought into it and worked hard.

“We’ve had three clean sheets in the last three games.

“People say it’s pre-season but results are important, confidence, it all helps.

“There’s a lot of reality in the games we’re playing. Wigan’s

development side were strong, Fleetwood were strong, Bala and Widnes. I couldn’t have asked more from the lads.”

Southport have brought Reagan Ogle back for a second loan spell at the Merseyrail Community Stadium after he impressed during his temporary stay from Accrington Stanley last term.

They have also signed goalkeeper Charlie Albinson on a permanent deal as well as Zehn Mohammed and Kieran Glynn who join on loan from Accrington Stanley and Salford City respectively.

“All three of them should be looking to be in the team,” Watson added.

“We’re looking to have a squad of 18 or 19 but all of them need to be knocking on the door to play.

“At the moment I’ve got great competition.

“Signings will be announced in due course.

“Everyone we want to sign has been agreed.

“There’s a couple of late arrivals for different reasons but they’re all done and we’re all comfortable with where we are. At this moment we’re actively looking for nothing.”
