Hit-run car driver leaves biker struggling to walk

-

A BIKER was left struggling to walk after being chased by a hit and run driver in Halsall.

The incident at the junction of Moss Road began when a man on the back of his motorbike spotted a driver beside him, who he said was on his mobile phone, and gestured to him to put it away.

However, the biker who does not want to be named, said he soon had to swerve out of the way when the car began forcing him into the oncoming lane.

Minutes later, he says, the car mounted the kerb and ran over his foot before slamming on the brakes, causing the biker to be thrown into the middle of the road.

Still in shock, the biker later went to hospital with a number of bruises to the lower half of his body.

He said: “I was coming out of the junction and he was there driving about 15mph in a 30mph zone so I went around him to put some distance between me and him and said to him; ‘Put your phone down,’ as I passed him.

“All I said was ‘put your phone down.’ I don’t know if he thought I was shouting abuse but I wasn’t.

“I went to just carry on driving and I saw his bonnet come up behind me, I’ve had to swerve out of the way and he’s then pushed me into the oncoming lane. He was no more than a foot off the back end of my bike.”

He added: “He kept following me down the other side of the road and was actively trying to push me off my bike.

“So I rode onto the kerb and I thought he’d drove off but when I looked over my shoulder he’d mounted the kerb and went into the side of my bike and ran over my foot.

“I was in shock. I don’t know what was going through my head but I went to go after the driver to get him to stop and the next thing he slammed his brakes and I fell off my bike.

“I was lying in the middle of the road for about 30 seconds before I got up again.”

The biker, who has had to have time off work due to the injuries, said he had struggled to sleep since the incident.

He added: “The worst part of it is that he ran me over on the kerb I could have lost a limb.”

A Merseyside police spokesperson said: “We are appealing for information following a fail to stop RTC in Sefton last Friday.

“At around 5.40pm on Friday, August 15, we were called to Moss Road in Halsall to a report of a collision between a silver Ford C-Max and motorbike.”
