Havilland Vampire, from 1953 to 1968.
The Strikemaster was built by the British Aircraft Corporation at Warton in Lancashire.
It was a light ground attack export version of the Jet Provost.
It was never operated by the RAF but was used extensively by air forces as diverse as Equador, Oman and New Zealand.
The aircraft are ex-Oman Air Force. The Oman Air Force operated the aircraft successfully in the light ground attack role with notable historical events such as the Dhofar War and the Battle of Mirbat in 1972.
The Strikemaster played a crucial role in the battle and proved to be extremely capable.
The Strikemaster’s engine produces 3500lbs of thrust and it is a pure turbo jet – which creates a noticeable noise impact! WE’VE teamed up with Southport Air Show to give away five pairs of tickets to lucky readers.
Three days of awe-inspiring, jaw-dropping aerial displays are set to make the skies thunder during this year’s show.
Thousands of aviation enthusiasts, families and tourists are expected to visit the resort between September 6 and 8 for the annual three-day aerial spectacular along Southport’s golden sands.
The 2019 show will also have international flair with the first appearance of the Swedish Air Force Historic Flight display at Southport.
On the ground, family-friendly displays and stalls return, including military tanks, a diving tank, replica aircraft, and flight simulators, plus the return of the much loved beach explosions.
