Churchtown plan concerns
RE Wainhomes development/ Bankfield Lane.
I have many concerns about this new build, firstly that locally the scale of building is far too large with approximately 700 new homes going up in Churchtown.
Churchtown is a village within a conservation area, this increase will have a detrimental effect on the lives of existing residents.
At peak times there is already heavy congestion, there is already a shortage of doctors/NHS dentists, limited school places.
We are losing some beautiful countryside, turning the area from semi-rural into a built up town.
There are also several matters that are being ignored by the council.
There is only one, small access point on Blundells Lane and it has still not been decided how HGVs will get there, as Verulam Road and Bankfield are in the conservation area and the bridge on Rufford Road can’t take the weight.
Japanese knotweed still hasn’t been treated and the flooding in the area still hasn’t been addressed.
I think we are all very concerned that rules have, and will be, broken to get this through because of the money involved. Linda Holt via email
DANGERS UNHEEDED?
RE Bankfield Lane local plan.
The only reason this proposal got through the planning committee, which was formed of a majority of South Sefton councillors, appeared to be more out of malice towards North Sefton and instruction for said councillors to toe the party line.
The only exception to this was the brave Councillor Thomas who made her decision based on facts rather than the above.
The planning department at Sefton appear to be letting numerous guidelines and warnings about potential dangers slide as the council appear hell-bent to make this happen no matter what.

I’LL DO WHAT IT TAKES
RE the article in the Southport Visiter about Bankfield Lane.
I completely oppose the building of houses in Churchtown. We have recently just moved to Bankfield Lane as a family and already have to be careful crossing the road with the children because of the traffic speeding down.
My daughter goes to
Churchtown Primary, which is a school already overcrowded and the classes full to bursting.
This village will be spoilt as a whole, and not a place I will want to bring up my families should this go ahead.
The access road to these houses is nowhere near suitable to accommodate all the heavy traffic and the congestion will be a nightmare onto Bankfield Lane.
Happy to sign a petition or do whatever it takes to stop this going ahead. Lisa Cox via email
DEFIBRILLATOR CALL
I HAD a walk along the new-look Southport Pier.
Speaking to the staff there does not seem to be a plan if someone has a cardiac arrest or suffers an anaphylactic shock.
I have donated some training books to the staff.
I have also contacted Mark Catherall, tourist officer, asking him to organise an emergency plan, improve signage and buy a defibrillator from the money for the pier refurbishment.
