Gardens ready for gala day
THE Botanic Gardens will hold its most popular event of the year this Sunday.
The free Victorian Gala Day event in Churchtown will run from 11am until 3.30pm.
Visitors are encouraged to dress up in Victorian fashion in the gardens that were opened in 1874.
There will plenty to do and see, such as vintage cars, steam trains, fairground rides, face painting, donkey rides, birds of prey, and singing and dancing.
Entertainment will be provided by Banks Brass Band, St Helens Accordion
Band and Nightingale House Hospice choir.
There will also be plenty of stalls and a barbecue.
Sandra Cain, of the Botanic Gardens Community Association, said: “It’s always been a fun, successful day.
“We encourage people to come down, they can bring a picnic if they like and just have a sing and dance or just listen to the music.”
The event is run by volunteers and Sefton Council and is a chance for people to come and appreciate the hard work done all year round.
All money raised will go to help support the community association.
Sandra said: “It’s a chance for people to come out and support their local park and the event brings the community together.
“It’s also a chance for us to showcase our work after being judged by the Royal Horticultural Society judges.”
Visitors will also have the opportunity to view the nearby Meols Hall which is open to the public for open days until September 15.
Tickets for the hall are £5.
