Stitches in time saved by public donations

-

AHISTORIC Chinese artefact on display in Southport can now be restored thanks to the generosity of local people.

The trustees of The Atkinson Development Trust have announced that their Empower Our Flowers crowdfunding campaign reached its target through public donations and a grant funded by Sefton’s Community Transition Fund.

The mission of the campaign, started in April, was to raise £760 to have a fine Chinese skirt restored, so that it could be displayed in The Atkinson’s Cross Pollination exhibition, which is showing

until April 4 next year.

Cllr Jan Grace, trustee and the voice of the campaign on its promotional film, said: “Thank you to everyone who has donated to keep this piece of social history in Sefton, you have contributed to making this exceptional item accessible to the residents of Sefton and a lasting legacy for the future.

“The trust hopes that everyone will come to see this beautiful handmade textile on display, which is an exquisite example of freehand embroidery, and enjoy the exhibition at The Atkinson.”

The campaign is still running on Spacehive for several more weeks, and excess funds raised will go towards further restoration work on items in The Atkinson’s collection.
