How to get to the big show... and where to park

WITH thousands of people expected to visit Southport over the three days of the air show, visitors are encouraged to take full advantage of public transport where possible.

Gates will open at 6pm on Friday and from 10am on Saturday and Sunday.

A number of road closures will be required to assist with the set-up and the safety of all those attending.

Marine Drive (Pleasurela­nd to Marine Parade) will be closed until Monday,

September 9.

From Friday, September 6, the following road closures will also be in effect at varying times:

Coastal Road (Weld Road – Pleasurela­nd).

Esplanade (Victoria Park – Marine Drive).

Marine Drive (Fairways – Marine Parade).

Both the Coastal Road and Marine Drive will re-open each evening following site checks.

Those travelling to the show by car are advised to tune in to the dedicated Southport Air Show Radio channel on 87.7FM for the latest news and up-to-date travel and parking advice.

Sandground­er Radio MD Andrew Hilbert said: “From this Friday, the official radio station for Southport Air Show will be on-air and we at Sandground­er Radio are running it. You’ll be able to hear that allimporta­nt traffic news, plus live commentary and all the essential air show news and informatio­n on 87.7FM.”

Cllr Marion Atkinson, Sefton Council’s cabinet member for regenerati­on and skills, said: “If you are planning to attend, make sure to get there early and make the most of your visit to our beautiful borough.”

PARKING

IF YOU are bringing your car to the Southport Air Show then there are various official car parks – including the beach.

Please arrive as close to gates opening to avoid delays.

Parking is available on the day and is £5 on Friday, September 6 and £6 on Saturday, September 7 or Sunday, September 8.

Parking can be purchased as an add-on in the ticket checkout on the Visit Southport website.

Car parks open at 5pm on the Friday and 9am on the Saturday or Sunday (with exception of Marine Drive and beach parking which will open at 10am on Saturday and Sunday only).

On Friday, September 6, beach parking and Marine Drive parking will not be operationa­l.

Parking is available on the beach (North Beach only), Marine Drive, Princes Park, the Esplanade Car Park and Victoria Park.

Directiona­l signage and stewards will lead visitors to the parking sites.

There is no parking on South Beach so if you are travelling from the south you will be directed to the Esplanade Car Park or Victoria Park.

If you are travelling from the North you will be automatica­lly directed to beach parking or the Marine Drive Car Park.

If you are travelling from the east you will automatica­lly be directed to other Air Show car parks.

The coach car park is on the Esplanade. Coach parking is free.

Caravans, motorhomes and any high sided vehicles are not allowed on the beach.

Sefton Council’s tourism team organises the air show around tide times which means cars are safe on the beach and not at risk of being washed away.
