Hamid loan deal cut short at Burscough

MICHAEL Ellison says he made the decision to recall Kyle Hamid from his loan spell at Burscough in an attempt to add experience and leadership at Runcorn Linnets.

Runcorn captain Hamid played just two matches for Burscough after being brought in by manager Nick Matthews alongside Millbank team-mate Mark Houghton.

Ellison, however, made the decision to swiftly bring him back to Linnets with the midfielder playing an instrumental role in the 4-2 Bank Holiday Monday win over newlypromoted Bet Victory North West Division hopefuls City of Liverpool.

Following Hamid’s return Ellison explained: “He went to Burscough to get some game-time. He had a long time out with injury. He played 60 minutes then 75 minutes and did really, really well.

“Was it too soon [to bring him back]? Maybe, but I thought we missed his experience in the side. He has an influence on other players and I made the decision to bring him back and it worked.

“He’ll still need to recover this week and I don’t think we’ll see the best of him for a couple of weeks but I thought it was important against City of Liverpool, where a lot of lads know each other, for him to add another dimension for us. He was excellent on the day.”

Ellison also admitted Houghton’s spell with the NWCFL Premier Division side is not likely to be for an extended period.

“He’s as popular with the players as he is with the fans,” the manager added. “He is a huge asset to have when he’s fit he just needs game time which he will get at Burscough after a long spell out.

“I’m certain it won’t be long before he is playing competitively in Runcorn colours once again.”

Burscough welcome Runcorn Town to Victoria Park this weekend following a run of three games without victory in the Premier Division.
