Let’s see more DOMINATION

LIAM Watson believes a new-look Southport side are beginning to come together following their 2-1 midweek win over Altrincham at Haig Avenue.

Raul Correia’s header and Kieran Glynn’s wonder-goal handed Watson’s side all three points despite Jordan Hulme pulling one back in the second-half.

“I think it was the most dominating 45 minutes I can recall ever having,” the manager said of the first period afterwards.

“We had a plan to stop

them playing out and the work-rate of the lads was exceptional.

“I have nothing but good things to say about the players but I’m not getting carried away. It’s a newish team but it’s starting to get together.

“You must have noticed there’s been a change in style.

“People have encouraged us to play more football but we actually played more football the way I want to see it tonight.

“High line, ask questions, put the ball on them and let’s see who wins the battles.” Southport were held 1-1 by Kettering Town at home last weekend and Watson admitted after the game he is desperate for offensive reinforcements.

Correia and Jack Sampson are Southport’s two recognised strikers and both linedup in a 4-4-2 formation at Haig Avenue.

With the Sandgrounders having scored just one goal in their last three games prior to the win over Altrincham, Watson says finding the ideal signing is proving difficult.

“We don’t really have a natural extra striker,” he ruminated.

“We do need to bring one in but it’s easier said than done bringing in the right one.

“In terms of the change from the bench our plan B was Devarn [Green, who started at right-midfield] who’s gone off injured and limited my choices.

“Kieran [Glynn], when he came on, was brave and tried to ask questions but 100% we need to bring a forward in.”
