Ah, bistro! Two local favourites in guide
TWO Southport restaurants have been honoured in the Good Food Guide 2020.
The guide, owned by Waitrose and Partners, features the best restaurants around the UK, including big names, best kept secrets and local favourites.
This year it includes Bistrot Vérité, in Liverpool Road, Birkdale Village, and Bistro 21, in Stanley Street in Southport town centre.
Bistrot Vérité was opened by Marc and Michaela Vérité in 2009, fulfilling their dream of running a small, authentic French-style restaurant.
Marc had previously established an excellent reputation for his cooking as head chef at the Warehouse in West Street in Southport town centre.
The menu is always changing, with seasonal ingredients sourced locally wherever possible and given a French twist.
Marc said: “We made Jacques our son head chef at the beginning of this year and he and the team are always striving to maintain the quality of food that we are hopefully known for. This is our 10th anniversary of having the bistrot and we are still loving it.
“We have a great front of house team with Darren and Mike giving friendly and efficient service. Makes myself and Michaela very proud the lovely comments we get about our little bistrot.
“We would like this opportunity to thank all our lovely customers for their continued support.”
Bistro 21, currently the top rated Southport restaurant on TripAdvisor, says it offers “a contemporary cuisine, using only the finest ingredients, freshly prepared each day by our award-winning chefs” in order to create “a truly memorable dining experience”.
They are particularly proud of their tasting menu, which gives customers the opportunity to sample a selection of dishes from their menu.
Jan Atkinson, owner of Bistro 21, said: “As a small independent restaurant we are excited to be in the Good Food Guide for the sixth year. We couldn’t do it without the support of all our staff and loyal customers.”
The Good Food Guide is compiled and written from scratch every year and restaurants cannot elect or pay to be included.
It is compiled using restaurant feedback, anonymous inspectors, reviews and a scoring system.
This year, 15 Merseyside restaurants made it into the Good Food Guide.
Others include: Maray, Roski, The Art School, The London Carriage Works, Wreckfish, Belzan, Delifonseca Dockside, Etsu and Lunya, (all Liverpool); Fraiche (Oxton); Pinion (Prescot); Claremont Farm Cafe (Bebington); and Burnt Truffle (Heswall).
Moor Hall, and The Barn, both in Augton in West Lancashire, also made this year’s guide.
The Good Food Guide is out today and is available in Waitrose shops and online.
