Ex-councillor to take on Tories for Parliament

-

FORMER southport councillor Jo Barton has been chosen as Prospective Parliamentary Liberal Democrat Candidate for the Tory-held South Ribble seat.

Jo, 48, was born in South Ribble, where she spent most of her early years. She now lives in Churchtown, with her family.

She has been a

Liberal Democrat activist for 13 years – eight of these as a councillor in Southport.

Jo is a keen environmental and human rights campaigner.

She loves spending time with her children. She enjoys fell walking, exercising in the gym, reading crime novels, science fiction movies at the cinema and live music.

On sunny Sundays, she can be seen out and about on her motorbike.

Jo said: “I am very honoured to have been chosen by South Ribble’s Liberal Democrats as their Parliamentary candidate; I would like to thank them for placing their confidence in me. I look forward to getting to know the steadily increasing membership of the constituency and working with them to secure this seat for the Lib Dems.

“I spoke many local party members before the hustings; I believe we have the beginnings of strong, locally focused campaigns throughout South Ribble – but we must reach our residents in a personal and relevant way to be ready for a general election - which may well be imminent...

“We clearly have a fantastic Liberal Democrat team in South Ribble. If we work together with a strong and positive campaign, focussing on what we plan to deliver we can win this seat.”
