THE 2019 Southport Air Show started on Friday night as thousands of people gathered to watch displays involving a variety of very special aircraft - followed by a spectacular fireworks display.

The display marked the finale of the increasingly popular evening event, a recent addition to the show.

Displays and performances were given by the Battle Of Britain Memorial Flight, Tucano, Typhoon, Tigers freefall parachute team, Fireflies and Otto

the helicopter with a pyrotechnic show.

Afterwards, many went online to praise those who took part, and the Sefton Council tourism team that organised it all.

Writing on the Southport Air Show Facebook page, Sorcha Mai O’Brien said: “When my four-yearold daughter excitedly declared with her friends that the fireworks from Otto the helicopter and the ground were ‘just like Disney!’ you know the rest of the event was going to be a success!

“Brilliant show. Well done to each and every person that was involved.”

Mark Wright wrote: “Fantastic start to the Southport Air Show. Great displays from all of the teams. The dusk display from the Typhoon was phenomenal.”

Dave Traynor wrote: “Tonight was awesome with the dark clouds making a superb background for the displaying aircraft especially so for the Typhoon’s afterburner. A great start to the weekend and so looking forward to day two tomorrow.”

Lesley Glaister said: “I was there... awesome finale after the breathtaking Typhoon.”
