AWARD-WINNING Irish comedian Jimeoin returns to Southport Comedy Festival on October 15 with his new show, Ramble On.

Jimeoin rose to prominence in Australia in the early 1990s, and had his own TV show, Jimeoin, which ran for two seasons.

He has appeared on TV shows such as Channel 4’s 8 Out of 10 Cats, BBC1’s Live at the Apollo, ITV’s Royal Variety Performance and the Conan O’ Brien Show in the US, among many others.

His film The Craic, which he co-wrote and starred in, won Australian Movie of the Year in 1999 and he was nominated for Most Popular Comedy Personality in the Logie Awards in 1996.

He said: “I’ve been to Southport before, so I’m looking forward to it. I might go and play some golf and have a bit of a swim!

“I love comedy festivals as everyone knows each other and it’s a real community event.

“It’s bringing a new experience to the people of Southport and encouraging them to come out and have a laugh basically!”

Jimeoin, who is looking forward to performing his new show at Southport Theatre, added: “It’s called Ramble On because that’s what I do – I just kind of mumble and ramble on about things.

“It’s just my nonsense really and crap jokes and I just want to make people laugh.

“I don’t stick to anything, it’s not a lecture, I just take the mick and I’m up for a ripping also!”

Southport Comedy Festival is back for the ninth year running with 18 days of laughter lined up from October 3 – October 20.

The festival showcases all levels of comedy, including workshops teaching absolute beginners and up-and-coming com-edians with the Southport New Comedian of the Year Competition.

Jimeoin said: “The workshops are a great idea and for anyone who’s just new to comedy – you learn so much by doing.

“To experience the feel of doing it is a great mental exercise and it just lights up your brain. You should try and do anything that scares you!”

Tickets for Jimeoin’s Ramble On show are £16.50.
