Sainsbury’s ‘will be built’

FRESH concerns have been raised over the proposed new Sainsbury’s for Southport, after the firm announced plans to close dozens of its shops.

But the firm has insisted it will go ahead with the plan for Meols cop Retail Park.

Last week, Sainsbury’s said it would shut up to 70 Argos shops and open about 80 instead within its supermarkets, and revealed plans to close up to 15 large supermarkets and as many as 40 convenience stores.

But italso said it would open about 10 big stores and 110 convenience outlets under the plan, which it insisted would increase its store estate.

The new store proposed for Meols Cop has hit the headlines on more than one occasion.

Seemingly straightforward plans, first submitted to Sefton Council in 2015, became a battle that rumbled on for four years.

In 2016, permission was given to demolish the former Homebase at the park and build a 60,000 sq ft store and petrol station. It was only approved after a five-day public inquiry – called for by former Southport MP and now Lib Dem councillor John Pugh in 2015.

Despite the plans being approved, work didn’t start and in October 2018, Sainsbury’s submitted new plans for a smaller store at the site.

Work was due to start earlier this month but no sign of activity has been seen.

As well as the main store, the development is to feature a petrol station , public recycling facility, new car parking, landscaping and associated infrastructure work after the demolition of some existing buildings.

And despite last week’s news about store closures, things look set to move ahead as planned. A spokeswoman said: “We expect planning permission to be granted by Sefton Council shortly. We will keep the community updated on our plans.” Countries like Poland or Hungary are among the many that provide dental services cheaper than those offered in the UK and it is tempting. The standards are quite high - I graduated in Poland and practiced dentistry there, too.

The UK has great standards of dentistry in general and some of the dentists are regarded as the best in the world, so if you are thinking of going abroad for treatment, there are a few things you should consider. The UK has some of the strictest regulations regarding dental treatment which is enforced by the General Dental Council and the Care Quality Commission. You will also be required to spend a lot of time researching the dentist and when you find one, I’d recommend calling them and speaking to them a few times regarding the treatment - finding out if there is a language barrier is a crucial factor.

Find out about their aftercare processes, how easy will it be to contact them in case you have any questions? What if you don’t understand their instructions clearly, or what if the final restoration doesn’t turn out how you expected it to? Consider other factors, too - like flight costs, accommodation and time off work as well as understanding that complex dental treatment doesn’t happen overnight or in one visit, you may have to go back a few times.
