SOUTHPORT BID has announced that Peter Andre will be coming to Southport to headline this year’s Christmas Lights Switch On!

The reality and TV star will be coming to town on Sunday, November 17 to head up a huge line-up of entertainment and formally switch on this year’s new lighting scheme.

Peter Andre is widely known for his successful music and TV career.

In the 1990s he became the sixth highest selling artist in the UK.

He had numerous number one hit singles, two number one albums and toured all over the world collecting a multitude of national and international awards along the way.

With many TV shows and appearances under his belt and with his Celebrating 25 Years tour now completed, for the rest of the year sees Peter will be taking part in Grease: The Musical as well as many more projects.

For the Southport switch-on, he will head a line-up that will also include Wet Wet Wet and Liberty X singer Kevin Simm, who won the Voice UK in 2017, and ’80s Liverpool pop star Sonia.

The event, organised by Southport BID and funded by BID levy pay

ers, has grown each year, with a spectacular day of entertainment bringing visitors from throughout the region.

The BID will also be putting on an exciting day of entertainment, fairground rides and street performance to ensure families can stay and enjoy the festivities all day.

Southport children’s entertainers Starkidz will open the show, with Snow Queen Elsa, followed by CBeebies presenter, Sid, bringing his one-man show to Southport.

There will also be entertainment from local pantos and performers throughout the day until the main show at 4pm.

TV presenter and former Heart Breakfast DJ Joel will be hosting throughout the afternoon.

Susannah Porter, the BID’s interim chairman, hopes this year’s line-up will bring the biggest crowds yet. She said: “The last two years have seen crowds in excess of 6,000 for the main event making us one of the biggest switch-on events in the region.

“We have had some great acts and we are excited to have Peter Andre coming to Southport this year, our biggest name to date.

“There is a full day of entertainment planned so we hope families will make a full day of it and spend time in the town centre enjoying the atmosphere.”

The big switch-on will reveal Southport BID’s new lighting scheme for 2019 along with the spectacular light show tree.
