- BY TOM FARLEY

THE key match in Division One this week was Wings’ narrow 54-51 victory at Casablanca.

Curiously, Wings won all the rounds in the first half and Casablanca all in the second, though not quite catching up.

All of the players were in double figures with Dag Griffiths 17, Tom Farley and Maurice Wright, both 13, and Keith Mulhearn 11 scoring well for the visitors and Ray Oakes 15, Dave Dutton 14, Chris Sumner 12 and Bill Thomas 10 for the Formby side.

Zetland maintained their 100% record with a comfortable 50-29 defeat of E-Street Band with Harry Owen 19, Derek Ainsworth 17 and John Clarke 14 scoring well and Alan Wright 14 leading the reply. Metros recovered from eight down at the change – over to win the second half 26-13 and finish 38-33 ahead of Fishermen’s Rest with good scoring from John Richards 14 and Dave Leyland and Brian Cummins, both 11.

Dave Tarr and John Ashcroft, both 11, lead for the ‘Fish’.

Mixed Blues led throughout at Exams to finish 39 34 ahead led by Ed Davies 18 and Bill Morris 17 with Jim Quigley 16 and Nick Philpott 12 leading for the home side.

Only two matches were played in Division Two this week, the others being played later in the season. Led by Bob Ellis 15, Alan

Martin 12 and Kate Woods 11, Vikings continued their successful start to the season with a 45-29 victory over Quads with Adrian Cannell 16 and Steve Redfern 12 leading the reply.

Due to the absence of regular team members, two other members of the Cannell family gamely took their place for Quads.

A close encounter between Formby Pavilion and Southport FC finished with former 39-36 ahead with good scoring from Leon Metford 12, Margaret Copplestone 11 and Ged Gallagher 10 with Geoff Wilde 13 leading for the visitors.
