TWO men whose burglary spree hit businesses in Southport and Formby have been locked up.

Darren Tynan, 40, and 26-year-old Dean Kane carried out a string of break-ins in which they stole cash and alcohol from the bars, restaurants and takeaways.

After being jailed, the pair were described as “brazen and thoughtless criminals who operate oblivious to the damage they cause”.

They were given jail sentences at Liverpool Crown Court last week linked to a spate of incidents over a two-month period.

Tynan, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to four years and six months in prison, after being charged with 12 offences, including burglaries at Leo’s Bar and Big Al’s, both in Nevill Street, Southport, and the nearby Tiger Bar, in Leicester Street.

Woodwards, Don Luigi’s and Flames were among those from Formby to be burgled.

Kane, of Westminster Road, Kirkdale, was sentenced to three years in prison, after being charged with seven offences.

Speaking after their sentences, Det Con Dave Rutherford said: “Tynan and Kane targeted businesses across Sefton and Liverpool over the summer, and it is pleasing to see them face justice.

“Tynan and Kane are two examples of brazen and thoughtless criminals who operate oblivious to the damage they cause.

“We understand the lasting impact that burglary or attempted burglary has on hardworking members of the community and we’ll continue to work closely with businesses across the force to ensure that we remove those people who cause such harm.

“If you have any information about suspected burglary at businesses or homes, or of stolen goods being sold in your community, let us know and we will continue to take positive action.”

Anyone with information on burglaries is asked to contact the force by social media or by calling 101, or contact the Crimestoppers charity, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
