SOUTHPORT and Formby residents are being warned to beware after a series of burglaries.

The break-ins have been at businesses and homes, where upper floor windows and skylights have been left open or unlocked.

Merseyside police have issued an alert for the residents of West Sefton because of the number of incidents between October 14 and 27 in Callan Crescent and Andrews Lane in Formby.

Officers warned that burglars use various means to reach these windows, such as flat roofed extensions, ladders left out at properties, or they may climb up drainpipes or even cables that are near an open window.

A police spokesman said: “To ensure the security of your building, make certain all windows are closed and locked.

“Most insurance companies will not pay out on a claim if all windows and doors in a property are not closed and locked.

“There has also been a number of thefts from motor vehicles with three incidences in Formby – Kirklake Road, Lifeboat Road, Victoria Road, two in Hightown – both in Blundell Road – and one in Station Road in Ainsdale.

“There is also a cruel scam currently operating in the area.

“A male and female contacted a resident on his landline and stated they were from his mobile telephone network and wanted to warn him someone was taking money out of his bank account.

“They persuaded him to download two apps on his mobile phone and transfer money from his

ISA to a current account.

“The scammers then successfully transferred half of the money from his account. The second attempt to take the money was blocked.”
