Firm joins lifesaving tribute to biker Nick
AMOTORBIKE hire and repair service in Southport has teamed up with a charity to install defibrillators in biker cafes and accident black spots around the North West.
The Nick Brisland Trust is a charity that supports families who have lost someone in a road accident.
The trust was founded by Ria Brisland whose 19-year-old son, Nick, died in a motorbike accident in 2015.
Despite the fact that a defibrillator would not have saved Nick’s life, she is keen to give others the best chance of survival in the event of an accident.
Together with Plantec Assist, the UK’s leading motorcycle hire, repair and claims management specialists based in Shakespeare Street, Southport, she wants to raise £5,000 to help fund the installation of defibrillators which costs £1,620 for a single one.
Garry King and Ashliegh Turner at Plantec Assist are bikers themselves and were inspired to help Ria’s cause.
Garry said: “Of all the charities we have worked with over the years, this one is the closest to our hearts.
“Keeping motorcyclists safe on the road is something all of us at Plantec Assist strive towards – doing so with Ria and her fantastic cause is nothing short of a privilege.”
So far, they have raised enough funds to install a defibrillator in Loomies Moto Cafe in Hampshire.
There are also two installations coming up in the North West in December.
One is in the oldest pub in Lancashire, the Scotch Piper Inn in Lydiate, which had a defibrillator until it was damaged.
It is seen as an important location as motorbikes can often seen outside and there are regular Wednesday meets with bikers coming from far and wide.
The other is the Old Stores Motorbike Café in Pontblyddyn, near Mold – a popular rest spot for those on two wheels from all around the North West.
There is also a third defibrillator but the location is yet to be confirmed.
Garry said: “We’d like to ask out to any local businesses who would be interested. We’ll take care of the installation, all we ask is that it’s not too far from a fuse box.
“We’d particularly like to get one along Southport waterfront as this would be a great location.
“God forbid anyone would have to use one but it could possibly save someone’s life.”
