SOUTHPORT confirmed the transfer of Devarn Green to League Two side Scunthorpe United for an undisclosed fee in a busy week of comings and goings for the Sandgrounders.

As Green departs Port have announced that they have signed Adam Anson from Witton Albion and have also secured the loan signing of former Tranmere Rovers player Jack Dunn – a 25-yearold attacking midfielder currently with Warrington Town.

Green, 23, had scored six goals this season and 14 overall since arriving at Haig Avenue in the summer of 2018.

The forward becomes the second player to depart Southport for the Football League after Dion Charles completed a switch to Accrington Stanley earlier in the campaign.

“We’d like to thank Devarn for his effort and some fine performances whilst with the club and wish him well in his future career,” Liam Watson said after the deal was announced.

“As a club, we have always said we will never stand in the way of any player who wants to progress and we all hope he goes on to achieve great success in his career and do well at Scunthorpe.”

Green, who boasts previous spells with Blackburn Rovers and Tranmere, admitted he was happy to return to the Football League.

“I was told by the Southport manager that Scunthorpe were interested and it all happened quickly,” he said.

“It’s very good to be back in the EFL. Sometimes in your career you have to take a dip down, and it’s all about bouncing back.

“There are many ups and downs in football, but I’m on the up now and back in the league.

“I just need to go out and do the business on the pitch. I’ve come here to commit myself to Scunthorpe, help the team and hopefully get a few goals.”

He added: “This season has gone well. I’ve got a few goals under my belt, in great form at

character and the minute and hopefully I can bring it to the team and show the fans what I can do.

“I just want to continue gaining confidence, play well and hopefully get the team up the table.”

Scunthorpe are currently 19th in League Two, 11 points above the relegation zone.

Southport travel to Hereford on Saturday sitting just three points outside the play-off places in the National League North.
