£50 taken in salon burglary
A13-YEAR-OLD boy refused to get into what may have been a private hire taxi on Sunday March 8 after the driver insisted his mother had called the taxi for him.
The boy had not been expecting a taxi and was approached whilst walking in Stafford Road in Southport just before 9pm.
The man asked him to get into the car but the teenager was suspicious of this, refused to get in and ran away.
CCTV and witness enquiries are now ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
And anyone with information is asked to come forward and contact police investigating the incident.
Detective Chief Inspector Gayle Rooney said: “I would like to reassure the community that we take any reports of this nature extremely seriously and enquiries are ongoing to establish exactly what happened.
“I would like to praise the actions of this boy as he was extremely sensible and did exactly the right thing under the circumstances.
“We would ask anyone who saw a male acting suspiciously in the area around 9pm to come forward.
“We are particularly interested in any mobile phone or dashcam footage which could help with our investigation.
“We would urge anyone with any information to contact us.”

BURGLARS made off with around £50 after breaking into a Southport hairdressers three weeks before the owner was due to retire.
The thieves forced their way into Marion’s Hairdressers on Shakespeare Street before clearing out the till.
The break in happened sometime between 11pm on Wednesday, March 11 and 6.45am the following day.
Marion McNeil said: “I was annoyed they took all my change but thankfully nobody was hurt.”
She added: “I’ve been in business 43 years and I retire in three weeks and then this happens.”
Forensic, CCTV and witness enquiries are ongoing and police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
