GO HOG WILD
IF you don’t have any spiky visitors in your garden, you’ll need just a few simple materials to make your own hedgehog friend.
YOU WILL NEED :
Air-drying clay; Paint – brown, black and any other colours you might like to use; Two small googly eyes; About 30 matchsticks (You can buy these from model or craft shops. If you are using matches from a box, ask an adult to make sure the matches are spent; A coloured bead
METHOD
Take a portion of air-drying clay, about the size of a hen’s egg. Shape the clay to make the hedgehog’s body. Push the matchsticks into the clay to make ‘prickles’.
Position the googly eyes and push them into the clay to stick. Position the bead to make a nose and push it into the clay to stick. Leave your hedgehog overnight to dry.
Once your model is completely dry it can be painted.
Your hedgehog is complete! Not only will it remind you to care for wildlife in winter, but its prickles are great for standing photos in, or holding your favourite rings or small toys.

METHOD
Make sure your pebbles are clean and dry before painting. This garden looks great if you choose slightly different shades of green paint for each pebble. You can do this by adding white or black paint to your green paint to vary the shade of it. Paint each pebble all over and allow to dry completely.
Use your while paint and a very thin brush to add dots, lines and crosses to your pebbles to look like spikes. Allow to dry.
Take your plant pot and fill three quarters full with sand or small stones/gravel.
When completely dry, push each painted pebble into the sand/ gravel, arranging your cactus garden how you’d like it to look.
When you are happy with your arrangement, add a layer of small stones/gravel to fill up to near the top of the pot. Make some flowers for your cacti by gluing on pompoms or fake flowers if you have them. If not you can make your own flowers from tissue paper. Cut several flower shapes and stick them on top of each other (see picture) before gluing them onto the tops of your cacti.
Finally, if you want your garden to have extra character you can glue on googly eyes.
