‘Sign of my thanks to our key workers’

-

ASOUTHPORT councillor has taken to carrying a sign to show his gratitude to those who have carried on working through the coronavirus outbreak.

Cllr Sir Ron Watson, who represents Dukes Ward in the town centre, said he is displaying the sign marked ‘THANK YOU’ as a small personal gesture to show his appreciation for key workers.

Sir Ron can only venture out for a short period of exercise and has stayed away from supermarkets, with the assistance of friends and family.

And when he does go outside for a short walk, he says he now displays the home-made sign for the likes of bus drivers and emergency workers to see, and hopes that others will do the same.

Sir Ron said: “In the current circumstances I think it is true to say that we have all been humbled by the dedication, courage and sheer hard work of so many people in the NHS on the front line but also a host of other people who are doing their absolute best to keep life as normal as is possible.

“During what is inevitably a short walk in my area by way of example today I have seen go past an ambulance, a police car, the 49 and X2 buses, a postal van and a home delivery service from Boots, Asda, Tesco and Morrison’s.

“I have had made a sign that says very simply ‘THANK YOU’ and I am taking this out with me on every occasion and holding it up as just a small personal gesture to express my thanks but I really do hope it is an idea that others might follow and by doing things like this which are very much appreciated by those who are doing so much for so many people.”
