Club bowled over by grant for lawn mower

-

A VILLAGE bowling club’s mower appeal has been boosted by a £1,000 grant.

Banks St Stephens Bowling Club is fundraising for the vital equipment to maintain its green, and Persimmon Homes Lancashire stepped in with a donation from its Community Champions scheme.

The match-funding initiative seeks to support grassroots groups and charities in areas where the company is building.

Stuart Atkinson from Banks St Stephens Bowling Club said: “The ongoing maintenance of our green costs around £2,000 each year, and a new mower is a major investment, so we are very grateful to Persimmon Homes for their assistance.”

Persimmon Homes, which has its Douglas Gardens development in Hesketh Bank, awards two grants of up to £1,000 to groups, charities and organisations from Lancashire or Cumbria.

Diane Finch, sales and marketing director at Persimmon Homes

Lancashire, said: “Local sports clubs provide a great focus for community spirit and help encourage healthy active lifestyles.

“We are pleased to support Banks St

Stephens Bowling Club and look forward to the village players being able to return to their green.”

From April, the Community Champions scheme will focus on groups working with and supporting the over-70s, to help those most likely to be isolated during the coronavirus lockdown.

Diane added: “We’ve made it really simple to apply for funding, and we’re urging good causes and charities to apply for next month’s donation by completing an online form at www.persimmon homes. com/charity.”
